About Me

Hi! I'm Serena!

I really love blogs with long "About" sections, so here's mine!  I grew up in the Seattle area.  In high school I became obsessed with Spanish and so I made that my major a few years later at Brigham Young University.  I graduated in 2004 and then applied to BYU's MA program in Spanish.  I started in 2005, and then I got a little sidetracked . . .

I went on an LDS mission in 2006, where I spent 18 months in Hungary preaching the gospel.  It was in incredible experience!  I loved learned Hungarian and meeting the amazing people there.

I came home from my mission in 2008 and slowly got back into my degree--fortunately my professors were patient!

Then I met Jake . . .

He was living in Virginia and I was living in Utah.  I met Jake's parents and neighbor through Church and they set us up.  (We actually connected for the first time through Facebook!)  We started writing, talking on the phone and visiting each other.  Not much later, we were married and I moved to Alexandria, VA where Jake was stationed (he's in the Air Force).

I finished my thesis and started teaching high school Spanish.  I loved it!

We spent the first few years of marriage traveling, kayacking, and biking.

We love seeing the world, both in and outside of the US and really hope to live abroad in the future.

In 2011, I found out I was expecting. our daughter Allison.  She 18 months now and we are completely smitten . . .

We now live in Ohio where Jake is going to school.  We're expecting our second child (a boy!) this August.
